It's All Grace

Amazing things can happen when you allow the Lord to work in your life.

Quit Numbing it

God wants us to walk into the pain…instead of numbing it.

What are you using in excess?  Shopping, tv, movies, food, alcohol , RX drugs, sleep, computers, your job, men, women, music, busyness, etc.

Whatever you are  using to numb the pain is dulling the senses and your sensitivity to God?  You cannot help others when you are enslaved and in bondage!

Let go of and walk away from what has a hold on you, and walk into what is difficult.  When we deal with the difficulty head on, there is freedom and a peace that comes only from the Lord.

Bike Ride Anyone?

IMG_0173

“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”  Proverbs 31: 25-26

That big zero on the end of my age is closer than I care for it to be.  After finishing an hour and forty-five minute bike ride with my family yesterday, I’m feeling a little rough this morning.  It’s been about 14 years since I’ve done such a thing to that degree – AND THERE IS A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!

There are those that will tease you about being over-the-hill and say that the best of life is gone.  I chuckle as I hear these statements when I wonder just what the Lord has in store for me in the days and years ahead.  How can HE use me during this phase of my life?  I have no fear of growing older, for life is out there for us to enjoy.

I am thankful for the time HE has given me to enjoy what this life has to offer: time with my kids doing the things they enjoy, reading HIS Word and finding new treasures each day, extending the love of God to those who do not know Christ, etc.

I will not be poured into an ancient mold.  I may be growing older, but I refuse to act old.  “Old age” is an attitude and I’m determined to live life abundantly through HIS joy and HIS strength.

On my bike ride I noticed the trees with their scars and bumps.  Their branches reflect HIS sunlight and reach towards the heaven praising God.  Those same trees have survived many of life’s storms, just like me!

I thank the Lord for the reminders HE gives me every day of the abundant life HE has for me, even still as I approach the sunset years of my life – aching from lengthy bike rides with kids who represent small trees full of spunk and vigor.

” . . . I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”  John 10:10

Thank YOU Lord for showing me that although I am very sore from riding a variety of bikes (even the ones that were built for small children) that I am still able to crawl out of bed and lift my voice praising YOU!

Wasn’t it SMART of God to:

Give the Bombardier Beetle the ability to defend itself by shooting boiling liquid out of its abdomen.  (Thankfully this is an ability HE withheld from people.)

Design a few folks to be ambidextrous — a rare ability found in mostly ravenous growing boys anywhere free hotdogs are found!

Create cats and humans with very different ideas when it comes to personal hygiene.

Make nose hair not grow as long as the hair on our heads . . . and small scissors to keep it that way.

Make us unable to tickle ourselves so we can wash the bottoms of our feet and under our arms without uncontrollable laughter.

Give us the capacity to breathe around 23,400 times in a 24-hour period without giving it a lot of thought.

Design the human heart with enough pumping pressure to squirt blood 30 feet (but not for long).

Make some species of ribbon worms capable of eating themselves if they can’t find food.  (Be thankful God didn’t design us that way or “finger foods” would have a totally new meaning.)

We have an amazing creator that saw that all HE created was very good.  May we enjoy all HE has created and be thankful for all HE’s done to and for us, and NOT DONE!   Have a blessed day!

Smart Brain

“And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.  Romans 12:2

The human brain is the most complex arrangement of matter in the universe, and modern brain research is adding to this wonder.

But medical researchers are learning that if the part of the brain that controls your left hand, for example, is damaged beyond repair, other parts of the brain will take over for the injured part.  This doesn’t always happen automatically.  However, it takes effort on your part.  If you don’t use the hand, the brain won’t work very hard to re-assign its function to another part of the brain.  It also works the other way.  Even if the brain isn’t damaged, failure to use your left arm will result in shrinkage of the brain area that controls it.  so, pianists, for example, will have a growth in the area of the brain controlling their skills if they practice.

These discoveries fill us with more wonder over the incredible abilities of the brain.  But they also tell us something about ourselves.  We are not, as many think, locked into certain bad habits or sins.  We are learning that the transformation of our minds by God’s power is not only something that happens spiritually — physical changes take place in our brains as a result of our behavior.  Is your mind being transformed by the power of God, or is it being conformed to the world?

Who Will Benefit?

Who do you love that will benefit from the ones who love YOU?  AND…who will you love based on the ONE you love?

Just yesterday, a precious friend of mine came (a great distance) to my house not only to get a hug, but brought with her “something of great monetary value” for one of my children to use and benefit from.

Our youngest son Brady, is temporarily leaving behind karate and running, due to a bone spur in his foot, and has decided to take up bicycling in hopes that he can still be active and enjoying what life has to offer in spite of any physical setbacks that this life brings to his doorstep.  By the grace of God only, Brady sees his glass 1/2 full and not 1/2 empty.

This idea and encouragement came from my friend Tandy who has been cycling now for 6 years and just recently completed her 5th 100 mile ride!  She has not only encouraged him on this new adventure but provided a way for him, and brings to our home much experience and wisdom.

Tandy came to our home on Labor Day, seeking hugs FIRST, then the chance to spend an hour or so of intentional training and instruction about the “bike” that would carry our 16 year old son on a different journey, that WILL include obstacles he may have not yet encountered.  For her to send a text or email explaining these details, was not enough.  She was determined and purposed to see him face to face, ensuring that he “understood” the depth of instruction, hearing her voice, looking into her face, as his life would depend on his choice to be attentive to his surroundings and listen to instruction.

As I watched this unfold, I was reminded of how the Lord desires for us to look into HIS face, gleaning instruction, heeding warnings as HE always has our best interest at heart.

Tandy shared with Brady two first hand experiences and reasons to take this instruction to heart.  Two of those she rides with had been greatly injured and even killed due to situations out of their control – a place many times the Lord allows us to be, so that we will surrender to HIM and HIS ways.

Have you found yourself disregarding instructions from the ones who love you and have your best interest at heart?  Are you listening to instruction that could save your life?  Are you finding the blessings in those who love you?  Do you acknowledge God’s Hand in all that happens to you?

This morning I received a random text from Tandy asking if my mother had died from Multiple Sclerosis or Muscular Dystrophy?  As I gave answer to the cause of death, she told me she wanted to pin a picture of my mother and I on her back and ride in honor of my mother and her fight of Multiple Sclerosis!

Humbled and full of tears by a “woman of grace” who continues to love me and my family as a result of the ONE she loves.

God’s blessings continue to flow as a result of our love for Him.  Who are you loving and who will benefit?

Train Wreck

The world is telling you to “follow your heart – if it feels good do it”.  However, the WORD tells you to guard your heart.  We are to LEAD our heart, not FOLLOW it!

If your goal in life is purity then don’t allow your heart to jump on a train that’s headed for a train wreck!  Where your heart leads, the rest of your body WILL follow in due time.  Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above ALL things, and desperately wicked:  who can know it?”

Listen to the one’s who love you.  Listen to the godly authorities that have been placed into your lives.  Those that are encouraging you to do wrong, are only thinking of themselves.  No one wants to fail alone.  Any boy or girl whose ever said these words, “If you loved me, you would . . . . . . ” are using YOU to meet THEIR needs.  This is selfish and not love.

The Bible clearly states in 1 Corinthians 13 what love IS:  kind, long suffering, it does not envy, it is not puffed up, does not behave unseemly, does not seek its own, it is not easily provoked, and thinketh no evil.  Hmmm . . . this is a much different picture of love than what the world calls love.

A TRUE friend will tell you what you don’t want to hear because they LOVE you.   Proverbs 27:5-6 says, “Open rebuke is better than secret love.  Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”

Before you leave the train station (with your heart) and get on the train, you need a plan.  Know what your ticket will cost you, where you are going & where you will get off, the history and track record behind the train, and what is the goal of your trip.  Know your boundaries on the train:  where you will ride, who will you be seated next to, how will you allow yourself to be swayed and influenced, and where you draw the line.

Is there a train wreck ahead for you?  Will you seek God’s Word on leading your heart?

Wringing Your Hands

We fret — We worry — We strive  — We wrangle — We manipulate — We scheme — We are frustrated — We are anxious — We are troubled — We wring our hands in despair.  Sometimes we panic.  Why?  Because, we do not trust, obey and pray.  We do not really believe that God can do what He says He can.  We do not really trust Him.

You have probably seen when a toddler will jump with excitement from the edge of a table top into his fathers arms?  Some may be reluctant and some may leap with enthusiasm grinning ear to ear.  Why is that?  It’s because he trusts that his father loves him and will catch him, keeping him from harms way.  This trust comes from seeing an established pattern.  We can learn a lot from this “picture” of trust.

Some of you know someone you TRUST more than anyone in this world.  Think for a minute, who that person might be.  How do you KNOW that you trust them?  What would you trust them with?  When you begin to answer these questions, realize that there is a reason that you trust them — it is because you really “KNOW” them.

When you are asked “as a believer in Jesus Christ”, “Do you really KNOW the Lord in this way that you would TRUST Him with your life?”  Can you answer yes to that question?  Many times we don’t trust God, because we don’t truly KNOW Him.

There are Christians who are truly saved, yet don’t really KNOW the Savior.  Get in the Word and read about the ONE who died on the cross for you so that you might have abundant life.  I pray that you fall in love with Him, as you walk through the “love letter” He has written down for you in the scriptures.

Wasn’t It Smart of God To:

Make our nose holes go down instead of up so when it rains we won’t drown.

Make aging a slow process instead of a sudden change, like while at youth camp.

Make our knees knobby so that we feel just enough discomfort to keep us alert and focused.

Give us nails to bite when we are nervous that aren’t made of metal and don’t taste like Brussels sprouts.

Cover our entire body with skin that flakes and sheds at a rate of up to 105 pounds during 70 years of living — and thankfully not all at once.

Have the spider be the first “web site” designer.

Design human legs perfect for straddling a horse or a Harley.  (Both are safe to ride if handled with respect.  Leather goes well with both.  And neither one needs a windshield.)

Not play “hide and seek” with us.  (Instead He plays ” seek and find” and promises our success!)

Wasn’t It Smart Of God To:

Give us fevers so we will know when we are sick or in love.

Give us two eyebrows instead of one — and tweezers to help keep them that way!

Give us tongues so that when we talk we don’t “hown ike ikh”.

Make the human blood cell able to make a complete circuit of the body in about 60 seconds — guaranteeing that at least part of us is getting exercise!

Give us chiggers so that scratching feels good.
